The joy of seeing people getting their life back again when they are free of their pain has driven me to create this online source of support to get fast, drug-free sustainable pain relief.

As a physiotherapist with over 32 years of practice, I have always been fascinated by the human body's ability to heal and recover. Movement is a most potent medicine, and has led me to create this website and blog.

This online journey is one of passion, tenacity, and a deep commitment to holistic healing. Over a series of blog posts I’ll take you through some of the many steps (and missteps!) of my life, both personally and professionally. Offering insights into my life, the experiences of my clients, and the evolution of a midlife woman who cares about living a healthy, productive, and ethically sustainable lifestyle, I hope these stories and informative tidbits will give you some solace, inspiration or wisdom to help you get through your day, week or month.

In the posts on pain management and the science behind various approaches, I’ll present some of the facts and theories that explain what may be causing pain and/or how it can be modified. These may provide you with some knowledge that you can apply to your own life or those of loved ones to come to grips with their pain experience and to give some meaning to the experience.

Physiotherapy is a science borne out of the approach of using touch and motion to heal. Before the age of ten, my mother, while strict, occasionally acknowledged your “gift of touch.” This marked  the beginning of my innate desire and fostered my ability to help others through touch, and despite family pressures to follow in your parents’ footsteps as dentists, (yes, my mother was one of the first female dentists graduating from the University of Melbourne!) I was fortunate to  meet various physiotherapists and inspiring healthcare practitioners in my teens.  These inspirational individuals helped me to recognise that my path lay in helping the whole person, not just on teeth.

Working in several multicultural community clinics over several decades, I  encountered complex cases, each a test of skill and empathy. Through this, I learned  the importance of careful listening, delving into the potential sources of my patients’ presentations,  and finding allies in healing.

One particular patient with vague back symptoms led me to suspect a deeper issue. After recommending further investigation, a tumor was discovered, highllighting  the importance of searching for root causes and validating the role of  intuition in healing.

When political influences in these public-sector clinics began to impact the resources provided to help clients achieve quality healthcare, I launched my private practice, Fit and Well Physiotherapy, aimed at providing lasting relief, valuing long term, sustainable solutions to get healthy, fit and energetic. Developing ways to give patients control and influence over their own health inn addition to providing quick, but often short-term pain relief like many other therapy clinics would solely provide, I found a rewarding way to approach pain that helped my patients maintain their mobility.

Rearing my own family, especially as my youngsters became rebellious teens and facing the challenge of being the sole breadwinner towards the end of my marriage, I realised the need to let go of control, and with it learned some painful but valuable lessons about acceptance and resilience. This internal shift helped me grow as a healer and a guide. Being real with my clients brought great comfort to those with a degree of emotional pain, and was in some way freed me from the pressure of feeling that I had to be the ‘expert’, as I don’t have all the answers.

However, despite various setbacks in life and with particular complex pain presentations, every successful case strengthened my resolve, affirming that this work makes a profound difference. I have particularly been inspired by the amazing and beautiful women who I have treated, many of whom are in carer roles, either of children, life partners or elderly parents, or in leadership, whether it is in a large or small organisation or in an influential community role.

Fueled by each success, Young in Motion was begun to provide an online solution for pain relief and self-management, with Young in Motion, building a system focused on lasting health and well-being, making pain relief accessible beyond traditional sessions.

Despite challenges in the industry and shifts in client needs, I am prepared to continuously adapt, staying true to your mission of transparency and compassion in healing.

Personalised care makes such a difference. This is difficult to achieve in the online space, but I am hoping to create a community where clients can share their journeys, support each other, and maintain their health long-term.
